Canadian Judicial Council publishes new documents relating to the judicial conduct process
Ottawa, 19 October 2023 – Further to the enactment of legislative changes earlier this Summer in respect of the judicial conduct regime, the Council has published today new Review Procedures for the Review or Complaints About Federally Appointed Judges. In addition, a new policy was released regarding the Council Publication of Judicial Conduct Decisions. The policy presents a balanced approach to the publication of decisions, considerate of the needs to, on the one hand, protect judicial independence, and, on the other, provide for more transparency in the public interest.
The Chief Justice of Canada and Chairperson of the Canadian Judicial Council, the Right Honourable Richard Wagner, P.C., noted the following: “These new Review Procedures and policy will bring greater efficiency in the early screening process and modernize the process in line with changing expectations of transparency”.
These new documents may be found on the Council website available at the following link: https://cjc-ccm.ca/en/resources-centre/publications.
